Charles Williams Biography
Born in 1965, in Evanston, USA. Studied at Maidstone College of Art 1985-1986 and graduated from The Royal Academy Schools in 1992 with no less than siz awards. He became a member of the New English Art Club (N.E.A.C.) in 1996 and was appointed to the Executive Commitee in 1998. Williams has exhibited regularly in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and with the New English Art Club since 1996. He has been invited to join the International Stuckists Movement and his work has been exhibited extensively both in this country and overseas. He has been described by Ken Howard R.A., when President of The New English Art Club, a body representing mainstream British Art, to which Charles was elected in 1996, as a "rising star". Williams has been awarded with the following prizes and scholarships: Prize for Anatomical Drawing in 1991, Creswick Prize, Silver Medal for Painting, British Institution Fund Award, Landseer Scholarship and Richard Ford Award for Study in Spain in 1992, Countess Driscoll-Spalletti Watercolour Prize in 1993, Bursary from SEArts and NEAC/Marks and Spencer Young Artist, second Prize in 1994, Travel Bursary from ROSL in 1995, Sir Ernst Cassel Education Fund Prize, ROSL in 1997, "The Real Turner Prize" in 2000 and again in 2002. His works is included in many collections including The British Design Council, Chevron UK, Kent Institute of Art and Design, TVS, British High Commission in Nairobi, Hammersmith Hospital Trust, Lily Savage, Alan Howarth MP in addition to many private collections. The Bakersfiled Museum of Art, California held a One-man exhibition of Charles' work November 2004/March 2005 and a selection of Charles' work was included in an exhibition at The National Museum, Liverpool.
